Pass the Pumpkin

This singing game was so much fun!  Thank you Ms. Lukow for the great example.  My students loved being able to rotate through the instruments and the gong at the end was a big hit!

Witch, Witch

Witch, Witch
How to Play the game: One child is chosen as 'the witch'. S/he stands at the front of the class with back to the class or eyes hidden. Everyone sings the first 2 lines. Witch sings 'Are you my children?' in regular high singing voice. Everyone answers.
3rd time the witch sings in a 'witches' voice and witch turns around/opens eyes. Everyone says 'No you old witch!' and runs from witch who tags one person who becomes the next witch.
Once learned have the children sing "Yes, Ma'am" using so mi hand signs!

Music Staff Game

Music Staff Review Game
Grade Level: 4-6
Shelly Stockton

1. Use masking tape to “design” a large staff on the floor of your room. On a large piece of cardboard draw a treble clef on one side and bass clef on the other.

2. Split class into 2 groups and have each line up in front of the staff. Choose a clef sign and decide on a line or space note from the staff and say it aloud, like “treble clef-lines”

3. Have the entire class say the name of the treble clef lines, “E-G-B-D-F” or “Every Good Boy Does Fine”

4. Name a note from Treble clef lines, like “G”

5. The first student in each line race to see who can step on the “G” line first. Game continues until all have had a turn.

Here are some alternative ideas to use with it:
  • Switch back and forth between clefs as they gain confidence and have notes written on board
  • if necessary.
  • Keep score. One point earned per win &points lossed if entire team doesn’t “say” the note name.
  • Have a tournament. Challenge the winner yourself and offer a prize if the student beats you. (It’s harder than it looks so I’d suggest practicing 1st!)
  • Use the game as an incentive for completed work throughout the year. They call it a “party”We know it’s learning! Have fun!
